A single pale figure
emerges from the shadows

Red rimmed eyes
peering at you in the dark

It’s gray and bloated tongue
runs over dry, cracked, bloody lips

Hands like claws
hanging languid at it’s sides

Hoarse, strained breathing
the stench of fetid breath in the air

Disheveled hair and ripped clothes
mouldering, damp and caked in mud…

And as you gaze upon this horror
stifling a scream…

Suddenly you realize
you see it all through real eyes
the horror you beheld
is none other than yourself
pulling you down and into hell…

As you gaze upon this horror
stifling a scream
you swear to yourself
for the very last time
“I’ll never drink again!”
